Wyclef Jean shot on eve of Haiti elections

Wyclef Jean, the hip-hop singer, was shot in the hand while campaigning for a fellow performer who is running for president of Haiti.
The shooting happened in the Delmas section of the capital, Port-au-Prince, on Saturday night, said Joe Mignon, senior program director for Jean's Yele Foundation.
Jean was treated at a hospital and later released, Mignon said.
Jean, a native of Haiti who made his name as one-third of the hip-hop group The Fugees, has played an active part in the presidential campaign. He is currently in his home country to support fellow musician and friend Michel "Sweet Micky" Martelly, 50, one of two presidential candidates in a run-off vote taking place Sunday.
He is competing against former First Lady Mirlande Manigat, 70. Jean himself last year announced he would run for the presidency, only to be disqualified by officials.
Last week, Jean participated in a Martelly concert in downtown Port-au-Prince that sought to win over voters.
"We are happy that Wyclef is OK, but we continue to pray for him and for a peaceful and fair election today in Haiti," the Rev. Al Sharpton, who has worked with Jean on educational issues and bringing aid to Haiti after the devastating January 2010 earthquake, said in a statement.
Final results are not expected until mid-April.

Will Gwyneth Paltrow's singing career take off?

OSCAR-WINNER, reputed hottie, and now singer – it’s difficult to describe Gwyneth Paltrow these days so I usually fall back on my old favourite... insufferable. Paltrow sang at the Oscars, the most cringe-making performance at the Academy Awards since her victory speech in 1999, and has now signed a record deal with the Atlantic label – the deal being she makes none. This follows her role as a washed-up country star – is there any other kind? – in the movie Country Strong and her performance in the TV smash Glee. It has nothing whatsoever to do with the fact she’s married to Coldplay star Chris Martin. I watched her sing at the Oscars and would say that she should stick to acting, except I also saw her acting in Sliding Doors. She should stick to sliding. Ladbrokes offer 5-1 for GP to have a No.1 single in the UK before the end of the year. Hills go only 9-4 so they are clearly covering themselves, as well as their ears. She’s 1-2 to release a duet with Coldplay.

Amber Rose Denies Being Dropped By Modeling Agency

Amber Rose is denying rumors that she was dropped by the Ford Modeling Agency. Several sites reported back in December that Kanye's ex-girlfriend had possibly been given the boot by the company, but Rose says that's not the case. "I was not dropped from Ford Models, they closed their celebrity division and my contract was up," the buxom beauty tells The Foxxhole radio show. "What people don’t understand is when you’re in a modeling agency and your contract is up, you still get jobs without them. It’s a good thing, so they don’t take 20-30% of your money. I walked fashion shows in Paris, London, New York even after my contract was up. I didn’t have to [re-sign with them] I was getting work without them, and it’s easier to get my own money without paying them," she explained.

Rihanna Not Dating Colin Farrell

Despite reports to the contrary, Rihanna is very much single. She is not—as a number of gossip blogs have reported—dating actor Colin Farrell. The story was generated after the singer and actor were spotted leaving the same Santa Monica restaurant on Wednesday night. However, a source confirmed to People magazine that the two did not dine together. Calling it a coincidence, the source said, “Colin was there at a business dinner and Rihanna was across the room.” There were previous rumors of the two being involved following Rihanna’s appearance on U.K.’s Graham Norton Show. Still, the source says don’t believe the hype. "There's no truth whatsoever to the reports and rumors that they're dating," the source added.

Lady Gaga’s Support of the Gay Community Results in Censorship

Lady Gaga has been a strong supporter of the homosexual community since she hit the music scene, and she’s been sure to make this clear in the lyrics of her songs. Unfortunately, according to Big Pond News, this has caused some trouble in Malaysia, where here single “Born This Way” has been censored for this very reason.

“Born This Way” celebrates the popular singer’s overall message of self-acceptance and pride, but lyrics such as “no matter gay, straight, or bi /Lesbian, transgendered life /I’m on the right track baby” have gotten the track censored in several radio stations across Malaysia, a nation in which “the issue of being gay, lesbian or bisexual is still considered ‘taboo’” according to a spokesperson.

In an age where most of us are thankfully accepting of artists like Lady Gaga and her message–whether or not we appreciate her musical talent is another story–it’s sobering to realize that there are still nations in which these issues can be problematic for musicians. On the one hand, we need to appreciate the fact that we can listen to this music without interference from those who deem it “subversive,” but on the other hand, we must be saddened by the fact that others are still afraid of these positive messages.

New Jennifer Lopez Single Leaks to the Web

Despite handling a judging gig on “American Idol,” Jennifer Lopez is still making music for her fans to enjoy, and today, courtesy of Entertainment Weekly, we’ve found out that her latest single “Invading My Mind” has leaked on to the web. Read on to hear our thoughts, as well as the song itself… Well, it’s definitely Jennifer Lopez, and whether or not that’s a good thing or a bad thing is simply a matter of personal taste. We’re not too crazy about her particular brand of dance-pop, but for those that are, there’s not too much to complain about here. Her voice–perhaps slightly augmented by technology–is as strong as ever, and the warm hooks of the tune are perfectly timed given the arrival of spring. Be prepared to hear this song blasting from the stereos of many a teenage girl with newly minted drivers’ licenses. This song won’t be the pop hit of the summer, but it will surely have its audience. There’s always something disappointing about artists who refuse to challenge themselves and shift gears musically, but it isn’t like anyone expects that of Jennifer Lopez. For better or for worse, musically she’ll always be Jenny From the Block.

Jay-Z And Beyonce To Appear On Dr. Dre's Detox Album

Jay-Z and wife Beyonce are back to making beautiful music together again. No, the pair didn’t have a nasty fallout or any other marital differences nor are the tabloid rumors of them splitting hold true. An unknown source told British newspaper The Sun that Jay-Z and Dr. Dre recorded verses for an unnamed track for Dre’s upcoming final album Detox, and that there was space left in the track for Beyonce to deliver a chorus. This comes as big news as the megastar power couple has not recorded jointly since 2007 on Jay’s American Gangster album on the song “Pray.” The full quote from the source read: “Jay and Dre have recorded their verses with the chorus left open for Beyoncé to sing. The producer has worked on Detox for over a decade. He wanted the couple together.” Jay and Beyonce have paired up on hits songs many times such as the Grammy winning “Crazy In Love” and the sweeping “Bonnie & Clyde” tracks. If the news of the collaboration holds true, the list of confirmed features for Dre’s last opus include Eminem, Snoop Dogg, Akon, Skylar Grey and buzzing young Cali rapper Kendrick Lamar. Rappers The Game and Slim Da Mobster also have been listed to appear on the record along with English electro pop duo La Roux. Dre has already released two singles from Detox, “Kush” and “I Need A Doctor” –with the latter receiving video treatment and serving as a launching pad for Skylar Grey’s heavy buzz and skyrocketing career.
